When Germs Attack

All teachers know that the moment that one kid has the signs of any sickness, that when you turn your back for one second, half the class will have come down with it by the time you turn back again. The downfall to living in a village however is that there isn’t much reliable help for schools aides or extra assistance. So when the teachers catch what the kids have, we don’t really have the choice to take a sick day. Insert one very icky feeling Monday for this exhausted teacher. A stomach bug was going around and while Chris and I both caught it, we were lucky to get it at two different times.

We don’t have substitutes in the village, so we have no alternative other than to show up to school and pray that the students realize that we aren’t feeling good. Which fortunately for me on Monday, they did and they were angels. Chris and I were both able to switch off responsibilities so that we could get some rest time when we weren’t teaching. I'm beyond grateful that we both weren't sick at the same time, because I probably would have just cancelled school (and this is why I'm not the head teacher..). It might be tricky and in times like this, it certainly isn’t fun, but we are making it through one challenge at a time!
